In the world of vaping, pod vape kits are as simple as reusable vape kits get. Consisting only of two parts – the e-liquid pod and the actual device – pod vape kits are perfect for vapers who don’t want to manually switch out coils, tanks, or change wicks.
Barely bigger than a digit, nearly all pod vape kits are manufactured around portability and ease of use. In a sea of sleek and stout vape pod kits, what else should be your criteria when picking a kit that’s right for you?
One would be battery capacity. As pod systems pack a lot of technology into smaller bodies, you may be wondering just how long these devices stay charged. The answer: a considerable length of time. Pod vapes can come equipped with permanent batteries with a capacity as high as 1800mAh. SMOK’s 50w Nord is one such vape pod, and can last all day.
Some pod vapes still use external batteries. For instance, the B100 Pod Kit by GeekVape runs on 21700 batteries. Although this makes it chunkier than your average pod vape, the external battery also lets it crank out up to 100w of output.
Next would be a pod system vape’s firing method. Pod vapes activate either through draws or by button. Draw activated devices provide a closer experience to smoking because all you have to do is puff, making them ideal for people trying to transition from cigarettes. Button activated devices are typically larger to accommodate the extra hardware, but that size also comes with more power and some of the customisability of vape mods.
Finally, you’ll need to choose between a replaceable or a refillable pod vape kit. Replaceable pods are convenient – just pop one in and start puffing. However, these can also be more costly in the long run. Refillable pod vapes are cheaper because e-liquids generally cost less than pre-filled pods. The challenge is the extra work you’ll have to do to refill the device. Pod vape tanks are smaller, so you’ll need to be nimble and careful to keep the e-liquid from spilling.
The pods in pod vapes are simply the cartridges that hold the e-liquid.
Pods can either be refillable or disposable and pre-filled. Refillable pods, like vape mod tanks, come with coils in different resistance levels. Pre-filled pods come in different capacities. For instance, you can get pods in 1ml or 1.5ml for BO One Kits from BO Vaping.
E-Liquids are also called e-juice or vape juice, and they’re simply the liquid that’s turned into vapour by your vaping device. Although there are countless e-Liquids out there, they generally have a base made of propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG), with nicotine and flavourings added in. E-Liquids come in different flavours, sizes, and nicotine strengths, so it’s always a unique experience! Certain types of vaping, such as sub-ohm vaping, only work with specific e-Liquids.
Pod vape kits are made to be easy and simple. Often devices have only two parts: the pod and the vape itself.
Vape mods have a lot more moving parts and offer more customisability. On mech models, even the material of the pin connectors can be modded to your preference. Usually units are bigger than even the chunkiest of pod vape kits.

Pods hold the e-liquid and come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and capacities. Standard disposable pods are shaped like small cartridges. Pre-filled cartridges typically only contain salt nic juices with higher nicotine content than most freebase juices.
You’ll find more variety in refillable pods, some of which even have airflow toggles that let you switch from DTL to MTL. Refillable pods can also be loaded with either salt nic or freebase e-liquid, although the lower wattage of pod systems means you won't be able to produce vapours as thick as vape mods do.

Similar to vape mods, you can either inhale direct-to-lung or mouth-to-lung using pod vapes. Some devices allow users to switch between inhalation methods, such as the Purge Ally Pod System by Purge Mods.

Next to disposable vapes, pre-filled pod kit systems are probably as easy as vaping gets. These cartridges simply snap onto the device, no priming needed.
Refillable pods are a little more complicated, but not by much. Changing coils for interchangeable pods isn’t rocket science, and you only have to soak the cotton for a couple of minutes before the pod is good to go.

Disposable pods are typically good for around 200 to 400 puffs, depending on the system. Refillable pods can last much longer, but ultimately their longevity can vary based on the type of e-liquid you use. Sweetened e-liquids have a tendency to create dreaded coil gunk, shortening the lifespan of pods. A well-maintained pod can last up to a month before you’ll notice a change in flavour.

What vape mods sacrifice in power they make up for high nicotine content. Most pod systems are designed to work with nicotine salts, which offer a smoother throat hit even at higher nicotine levels.
That means a pod system vape is a great device for heavy smokers who are trying to quit. Your average cigarette contains 50mg of nicotine. However, freebase e-liquid can only deliver up to 20mg of nicotine before the throat hit becomes too harsh. Nic salts can go up to 50mg.
Smooth draws coupled with ease of use help many successfully transition from much more harmful cigarettes.
